Description
At the centre of William Dyce’s cruciform design sits the arms of the Order of the Garter and the motto ‘Honi soit qui mal y pense’, or ‘Evil to him who evil thinks’. The cross is topped by the St Edward’s Crown that Victoria wears on the obverse and, like Wyon’s design, Dyce’s cruciform fills the coin’s surface, the tips of the crown breaking through the trefoil edge motif.

OBVERSE
Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse of 2022 Proof St. Helena Gothic Crown Coins. This 2015 effigy came courtesy of Jody Clark, who in 2015 at age 33 was the youngest designer to have their work featured on Royal Mint coinage. Youll find inscribed along the rim of the coin the words ELIZABETH II, D G REGINA F D, ST. HELENA, FIVE POUNDS.
REVERSE
A replica of the Gothic Crown design is shown on the reverse of the 2022 St. Helena Gothic Crown 1 oz Gold Coin. In the middle, we see the Order of the Garter arms, which represents an English chivalric order from 1348. Surrounding this is a cruciform design of four shields inspired by the Royal arms. The backdrop consists of floral patterns seen as symbols of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Across the rim is a Latin inscription reading TUEATUR UNITA DEUS ANNO DOM MDCCCXLVII. This translates to May God Guard these United Kingdoms, Year of Our Lord 1847.
